Early this summer, I did not have cable television, so I went to espn.com to try and watch my two favorite sports shows, Around The Horn and Pardon The Interruption, two shows that were once offered for free on espn.com. They were no longer free, but a part of the ESPN Insider subscription package. The package was only $6.95 a month. The subscription also came with a monthly issue of ESPN The Magazine.
I ended up getting cable about three or four weeks later, making the ESPN Insider subscription obsolete, as I used it for nothing else. I thought to myself “ok, time to cancel this. I ran into problems when I realized there was no way to cancel my subscription on the ESPN website.
Here are some tips to getting your ESPN Insider subscription cancelled.
- Call 1-888-549-ESPN (3776)
- Make sure you know the name on the account as well as the email, you will need it for account verification.
- Your representative will most likely ask you why you are canceling. A good reason to use: “I don’t use it”.
- You will most likely be offered a retention offer for a cheaper subscription price.
- Ask for some type of confirmation that your account has been canceled.
- They will give you a case number in case you should have any future problems.
Overall, canceling my subscription was not a huge hassle as I was very stern in letting the customer service rep know that I did not want to be sold a cheaper subscription, even though they sent me a very enticing offer after I got off the call. If you are looking for a cheaper subscription, this it the route to go as well, as you will be offered a much cheaper retention offer.
**Note: There is absolutely no way (as of 8-14-2009) to cancel your subscription online. You MUST call ESPN and cancel over the phone.
Good luck!
